Sit with me, if not now than not in heaven

As parents our hearts yearn when the day comes that our child no longer thinks it’s fun to hang out with us, we suddenly become less important and saying I love you feels so humiliating to say in public. It’s like the one creation we made suddenly wants to stop doing what they were created for…to be loved and love. Our hearts break and we feel sadness that we no longer hold their priority in spending time. Yet this is how we teat God…

When we wake up and already throw ourselves into the demands of the day without taking a moment with the creator we send him a posture that says “all of these things come first”. Is this really what you mean? Jesus doesn’t judge us based off our works but he does want to know you, and you to know him. "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me." - John 10:14

How can we say we follow Christ and can’t wait to be with him in heaven for all eternity when we can’t even spend time with him now? When you can’t give him 5 minutes? 10 minutes? It’s easy to say “God give me this and that and thank you okay bye”, when you look at Jesus like he’s a magic genie. But if you truly believe he is the Son of God, the savior of the world: how could that be enough?

My greatest fear? “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!” - Matthew 7:21-23 That’s what keeps me coming back to the cross over and over, that’s what keeps me surrendered, that’s what keeps my heart and eyes from staying anywhere else too long. Not all seasons I'll get right but I know this, I don’t want anything that will keep me from his presence.

Not here on HIS earth, and not in heaven. Long for him, sit with him, pray, and cry to him. He’s been waiting for anytime you are willing to give but he deserves your best. He’s not disappointed, he just misses you. We hold onto disappointments, not Jesus.

PRAYER TO SPEAK

Jesus, I’d call myself a believer, but I'm not sure I follow you the way you command. At times my faith lacks and I don’t represent you the best. I quickly fall into busy schedules and giving other things more time than I give you, but I want to change that. I want to put you first everyday, I want you to be my first thought and my last. Help convict me when I give you bread crumbs instead of everything. Shape my heart into the shape of yours and wash away all other desires than spending time with you. Make it my refuge and my peace. My war room and my altar, Jesus I just want you.

In Jesus name

Amen.

PRAYER OVER YOU

Abba, you are the Father and creator, you knew us in our mother’s womb and loved us then. When we were little we had much time but lack understanding, now we understand but lack in time. Help me to show my love for you everyday, not out of obligation but because my heart cries out for you. Give me discipline to put you first and all things last. I desire to know you more than a savior but as a friend, father and confidant. You are everything let me treat you as such.

In Jesus name

Amen
